We often get asked where does my trash go? Where do you take it to? Is any of it recycled? Although every situation is different, hopefully we can answer some of these questions and help teach what happens next.
After you call us at Dump Ease and we drop off your dumpster, you get hard at work filling our trailer full of 10 yards of debris. Typically, what we see in household debris is 40% recyclable. Everything from plastics, papers, and metals to concrete, asphalt, and glass can live again as a new item when recycled properly. We try our best to keep these items out of the landfill and recycle them when we can.
We understand that not all items have the potential to be recycled. Single use items, building supplies, and general rubbish are some of our most disposed of items. Unfortunately, these items find themselves on the way to the landfill more often than not.
Pinellas county solid waste utilizes a state of the art waste-to-energy plant which helps to offset the cost of our landfill by burning the waste to create energy. This helps to allow even non-recyclable waste items to benefit the community by powering 45,000 local homes and businesses. After we dump your debris at the landfill it goes through sorting where they ensure that no metals, hazardous waste, and non burnables, make their way into the incinerator. After that last check, the debris is sent to the incinerator where it is burned.
After the trash is burned, the ashes are loaded up and sent to the top of the landfill. At just a fraction of the volume it once was, and after any useable energy has been utilized, the ashes find their final resting place on top of the landfill that many of you may see from afar.
Many people, machines, and processes have been put in place to ensure that everything that you have filled our dumpsters with is being sorted, categorized, and utilized while only the unusable items are burned and buried in our landfill
